Peace Be With You

John 20:19 (LXX) · 2026-04-13

After the Resurrection, the disciples are still afraid—behind closed doors and unsure of what comes next. But Christ enters into their fear and speaks peace, showing that His presence meets us even before everything is resolved.

Scripture Reading

19 Then the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews, came Jesus and stood in the midst, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you.

Devotional Reflection

Christ is risen.

But what comes next?

After the empty tomb…
after the astonishment…
after the realization that everything has changed…

we find the disciples in a very familiar place.

Behind closed doors.

Still unsure.
Still afraid.

And into that space—
not after everything is resolved…
but right in the middle of it—
Jesus comes.

The Resurrection does not remove every difficulty overnight.

The disciples are still afraid.
Still uncertain about what lies ahead.

But Christ doesn’t wait for their fear to disappear.

He enters into it.

And His first words are simple:

“Peace be unto you.”

Not explanation.
Not instruction.

Peace.

We often think that if Christ is truly present,
our fear should vanish.

But that’s not what happens here.

The fear is still there.
The uncertainty is still real.

But now—
Christ is there too.

And His presence begins to change everything.

Peace is not the absence of fear.

It’s the presence of Christ within it.

Where are your doors closed?

Where are you holding back—
out of fear, uncertainty, or hesitation?

Today, don’t wait until everything feels resolved.

Let Christ enter now.

• Into the uncertainty.
• Into the questions.
• Into the places that still feel unsettled.

Because He doesn’t stand outside waiting.

He comes in—
and brings peace with Him.

Closing Prayer

Lord,

You enter into places I try to keep closed.

Even when I am afraid,
even when I am uncertain,
You come near.

And still, I hesitate to let You in.

Give me the courage
to open what I have kept shut.

To bring my fears, my doubts,
and my questions before You—
without hiding, without hesitation.

Speak Your peace into my heart.

Not a temporary calm,
but a deep and steady assurance
that You are with me.

Help me to trust Your presence
even when I don’t understand everything.

And as I continue forward,
teach me to live not from fear—
but from the peace You give.

Because You are alive.

And You are here.

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit,
Amen.
