Receive The Spirit

John 20:22 (LXX) · 2026-04-14

The Resurrection is not only something we witness—it is something we receive. Christ breathes new life into His disciples, inviting us to live not by our own strength, but by His Spirit within us.

Scripture Reading

22 And when He had said this, He breathed on them, and saith unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost.

Devotional Reflection

Yesterday, we saw Christ enter the room
where the disciples were gathered in fear.

He didn’t wait for them to be ready.
He came to them.

And His first gift was peace.

But He doesn’t stop there.

Because the Resurrection is not only something we witness.
It’s something we receive.

And today, Christ does something deeply personal.

He gives them His Spirit.

This moment echoes something familiar.

From the very beginning—
when God formed man from the dust—
He breathed life into him.

And now, after the Resurrection,
Christ breathes again.

Not just physical life…
but spiritual life.

A new beginning.

Receive the Spirit.

The disciples are no longer just followers.
They are being transformed.

What Christ accomplished outwardly—
He now begins to plant within them.

And this is the shift for us as well.

The Christian life is not about trying harder
from the outside.

It is about receiving life
from within.

Today, don’t approach your faith
as something you have to generate on your own.

Receive.

Receive His presence.
Receive His Spirit.
Receive the life He is offering.

We’re not meant to live this life
in our own strength.

We’re meant to be filled.

Closing Prayer

Lord,

You do not leave me to live this life on my own.

You come near,
and You give what I cannot create for myself.

Breathe Your life into me again.

Where I feel empty, fill me.
Where I feel weak, strengthen me.
Where I feel distant, draw me close.

Teach me to receive what You are giving—
not with resistance,
but with openness and trust.

Help me to rely not on my own strength,
but on the life of Your Spirit within me.

And as I move through this day,
remind me that I am not alone.

You are alive.

And Your life is at work in me.

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit,
Amen.
