Names carry meaning.
Some names remind us of people we love.
Others bring memories of places, events, or important moments in our lives.
Throughout Scripture, names often reveal something about a person’s character or identity.
But there’s one name that stands above every other.
One name that has brought hope to the weary.
Comfort to the suffering.
Forgiveness to sinners.
And salvation to the world.
After describing Christ’s humility and exaltation, Paul now points us to the greatness of His name.
A name that will one day be honored by all creation.
Scripture Reading
10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth.
Devotional Reflection
Paul paints a breathtaking picture.
Every knee should bow.
Not some.
Not many.
Every.
The name of Jesus is not merely respected.
It’s exalted above every authority.
Every kingdom.
Every power.
Every title.
The One who humbled Himself and went to the cross has now been revealed as Lord over all.
This verse reminds us that history is moving toward a day when Christ’s authority will be fully acknowledged throughout creation.
His reign is not temporary.
His kingdom is not fragile.
His lordship is eternal.
Human beings are created to worship.
If we don’t worship God, we often give our devotion to something else.
Success.
Comfort.
Money.
Approval.
Control.
We bow our hearts to whatever we value most.
Yet all earthly things eventually fade.
They cannot carry the weight of our trust.
Only Christ is worthy of our complete devotion.
Only Christ remains unchanged.
Only Christ reigns forever.
When we keep Him at the center of our lives, everything else begins to find its proper place.
One day every knee will bow before Christ.
But Paul isn’t simply pointing us toward a future event.
He’s inviting us to respond today.
Before the outward bowing comes the inward surrender.
The daily choice to trust Him.
Follow Him.
And place Him above every competing loyalty.
Today, ask yourself:
What occupies the highest place in my heart?
Then consciously place that area before the Lord.
Let your heart bow before Christ today.
Not out of obligation.
But out of love.
Closing Prayer
Lord Jesus Christ,
Your name is above every name.
Above every power,
every authority,
every kingdom,
and every throne.
You are the One who humbled Yourself for our salvation.
You are the One whom the Father has exalted.
And You are the One before whom all creation will one day bow.
Today, I simply want to honor You.
Thank You for Your mercy.
Thank You for Your patience.
Thank You for Your unfailing love.
May my heart never grow casual toward Your greatness.
May my worship never become routine.
And may my life reflect the reverence that belongs to Your holy name.
You alone are worthy of my trust.
You alone are worthy of my devotion.
You alone are worthy of my praise.
For Yours is the kingdom,
and the power,
and the glory,
together with the Father and the Holy Spirit,
now and ever and unto ages of ages.
Amen.
