Wherefore God Also Hath Highly Exalted Him

Philippians 2:9 · 2026-06-21

Christ's path of humility and obedience reminds us that God's purposes often unfold beyond what we can see, and that faithfulness is never overlooked by Him.

We often want the reward before the work.

The recognition before the sacrifice.

The victory before the struggle.

Yet God’s pattern is often different from our own.

Throughout Scripture, we see a recurring theme.

Humility comes before honor.

Service comes before leadership.

Faithfulness comes before reward.

Paul has just described the humility and obedience of Christ.

His willingness to take the form of a servant.

His willingness to endure even the death of the cross.

Now the story turns.

Not because Christ sought exaltation for Himself.

But because the Father honors the Son’s perfect obedience.

And in that moment, we are reminded that God’s purposes extend far beyond the trials of the present moment.

Scripture Reading

9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted Him, and given Him a name which is above every name.

Devotional Reflection

After describing Christ’s obedience,

Paul says,

“Wherefore God also hath highly exalted Him.”

The path to exaltation passed through humility.

The path to glory passed through the cross.

The Father did not overlook the faithfulness of the Son.

Nor did He leave His sacrifice unanswered.

In God’s perfect timing,

Christ was exalted.

This doesn’t mean humility is a strategy for gaining recognition.

Christ’s humility was genuine.

His obedience was complete.

Yet this passage reminds us that God sees what others may overlook.

Nothing done in faithfulness is ever hidden from Him.

One of the hardest things in life is waiting.

Waiting for answers.

Waiting for healing.

Waiting for circumstances to change.

Sometimes we wonder whether our efforts matter.

Whether our sacrifices are seen.

Whether our faithfulness makes any difference.

This verse reminds us that God’s perspective is larger than our own.

The disciples saw the cross.

God saw the resurrection.

The world saw suffering.

God saw redemption.

What appears unfinished to us may already be part of a greater purpose that God is bringing to completion.

Today, focus less on recognition and more on faithfulness.

Serve where God has placed you.

Love the people around you.

Fulfill the responsibilities entrusted to you.

Leave the results in His hands.

You may not see the full impact of your faithfulness today.

You may not receive immediate affirmation.

But God sees.

God knows.

And God’s timing is always better than our own.

Our calling is not to seek exaltation.

Our calling is to follow Christ.

Closing Prayer

Lord,

When I look at the life of Christ, I am reminded that Your ways are not the ways of this world.

Where the world seeks power, He chose humility.

Where the world seeks recognition, He chose service.

Where the world seeks its own will, He chose obedience.

Thank You for giving us such a perfect example to follow.

Teach me to trust Your timing when I cannot see the outcome of my efforts.

Teach me to remain faithful in the responsibilities You have placed before me.

And teach me to value obedience more than recognition.

When I am tempted to become discouraged, help me remember that no act of faithfulness is ever hidden from Your sight.

You see every prayer.

Every sacrifice.

Every quiet act of love.

And You are accomplishing far more than I can understand.

May my life bring glory to Christ, whose humility led to exaltation, and whose kingdom will never end.

For to Him belongs all honor, all glory, and all dominion, together with the Father and the Holy Spirit, now and ever and unto ages of ages.

Amen.
