He Which Hath Begun a Good Work in You

Philippians 1:6 · 2026-06-10

Our hope rests not in our own strength, but in the faithfulness of God, who continues the good work He has begun within us.

As we begin a new journey through The Epistle of Paul to the Philippians, we encounter a letter filled with warmth and encouragement.

Paul is writing to believers he deeply loves.

People who have supported him.

Prayed for him.

And shared in the work of the Gospel.

Yet Paul is not focused merely on what they have accomplished.

His attention is fixed on what God is accomplishing within them.

Because the Christian life is not a project we complete by our own strength.

It’s a work that God Himself has begun.

And a work He continues every day.

Scripture Reading

6 Being confident of this very thing, that He which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ.

Devotional Reflection

Paul speaks with confidence.

Not confidence in human effort.

Not confidence in human determination.

Confidence in God.

The Lord had begun a good work in the believers at Philippi.

He had called them.

Changed them.

Drawn them to Himself.

And Paul knew that God wouldn’t abandon that work halfway through.

The same is true for us.

Our growth may feel slow.

Our progress may seem uneven.

Yet God remains faithful.

The One who begins the work is also the One who sustains it.

When a seed is planted, much of its growth happens beneath the surface.

For a time, nothing appears to be happening.

Yet roots are forming.

Life is developing.

Preparation is taking place.

Our spiritual lives often unfold in a similar way.

There are seasons when we feel stuck.

Seasons when we wonder whether we’re growing at all.

Yet God is often doing His deepest work in places we cannot immediately see.

His faithfulness isn’t measured by our feelings.

His faithfulness rests in His character.

And He never forgets the work of His hands.

Today, be patient with the work God is doing in your life.

Don’t measure your spiritual growth only by what you can see.

Trust His timing.

Trust His wisdom.

Trust His faithfulness.

The Lord isn’t finished with you.

Every prayer matters.

Every act of obedience matters.

Every step of faith matters.

And the God who began the work will continue shaping you according to His purpose.

Closing Prayer

Lord,

Too easily, I become discouraged by my weaknesses.

I see how far I still have to go.

I notice my failures, my shortcomings, and the places where I continue to struggle.

Yet You remind me that my hope rests not in my own strength, but in Your faithfulness.

Thank You for beginning a good work within me.

Thank You for Your patience when I grow weary.

Thank You for Your mercy when I stumble.

Help me trust that You are still working, even when I cannot see immediate results.

Give me confidence in Your promises.

Give me perseverance in the journey.

And help me remember that my life rests in the hands of a God who never abandons His work.

May I walk forward with hope, knowing that You are shaping me day by day into the likeness of Christ.

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit,

Amen.
