We Will Hear Thee Again of This Matter

Acts 17:32 · 2026-06-08

God often works in hearts gradually, reminding us that faithfulness is not measured by immediate results but by trusting Him with the harvest.

Paul has been speaking in Athens.

He has proclaimed the Creator.

The God who gives life and breath to all.

The God who calls all people everywhere to repent.

He has spoken of the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

And the responses have been mixed.

Some mocked.

Some dismissed the message entirely.

Yet not everyone reacted that way.

Among the crowd were those who were not ready to believe,

but neither were they ready to reject what they’d heard.

And their response reminds us that God often works in hearts over time.

Scripture Reading

32 And when they heard of the resurrection of the dead, some mocked: and others said, We will hear thee again of this matter.

Devotional Reflection

The people who spoke these words weren’t making a confession of faith.

But they weren’t mocking Paul either.

They wanted to hear more.

Something about the message had captured their attention.

A question remained.

A curiosity lingered.

A door had been left open.

Sometimes we expect every encounter with truth to produce an immediate response.

Yet spiritual growth often happens gradually.

One conversation.

One question.

One moment of reflection at a time.

God is often at work long before we can see the results.

Many of us can look back and remember a season when we were still searching.

A passage of Scripture.

A sermon.

A conversation with a friend.

Something stirred our hearts,

even if we weren’t ready to respond immediately.

Looking back, we can see that God was already drawing us closer.

The same is true for many people around us.

Not every seed produces fruit the moment it’s planted.

Some take time.

Some remain hidden beneath the surface before new life begins to appear.

The Lord is patient.

And His work in the human heart is often quieter than we expect.

Today, remember that faithfulness isn’t measured only by immediate results.

Perhaps you’ve shared your faith with someone who seemed uninterested.

Perhaps you’ve prayed for a loved one for many years.

Perhaps you’re waiting for growth in your own spiritual life.

Don’t lose heart.

God is still at work.

The seed that seems dormant today may become tomorrow’s harvest.

Continue to pray.

Continue to trust.

Continue to remain faithful.

The Lord knows how to bring growth in His perfect time.

Closing Prayer

Lord,

At times I become impatient.

I want immediate answers, immediate growth, and immediate results.

Yet You often work in ways that are quieter and slower than I expect.

Help me trust Your timing.

When I do not see progress, give me faith.

When I do not see fruit, give me patience.

And when I am tempted to become discouraged, remind me that You are always at work, even when I cannot see it.

Teach me to be faithful in planting seeds of kindness, truth, and love.

Help me trust that You are able to accomplish far more than I can imagine.

And may I never lose hope in the transforming power of Your grace.

For You are the Lord of the harvest, and all things are held within Your hands.

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit,

Amen.
