Paul has just delivered one of the most remarkable sermons in the Book of Acts.
He’s spoken about the Creator.
The God who gives life and breath to all.
The God who calls all people everywhere to repent.
The God who has appointed a day of righteous judgment.
And then Paul proclaims the truth that stands at the center of the Christian faith.
Jesus Christ has been raised from the dead.
For some, this is a message of hope.
For others, it becomes a stumbling block.
And today we see that not everyone who hears the truth responds in the same way.
Scripture Reading
32 And when they heard of the resurrection of the dead, some mocked: and others said, We will hear thee again of this matter.
Devotional Reflection
The message did not change.
Paul spoke the same words to everyone gathered there.
Yet the responses were different.
Some mocked.
Others wanted to hear more.
Still others believed.
The truth of God often produces different reactions in different hearts.
Not because the message is unclear.
But because every person receives it through the condition of his own heart.
The resurrection challenged the assumptions of many Athenians.
And rather than consider it, some chose to dismiss it.
Most of us know what it feels like to be dismissed.
To have something important treated as foolish.
To have our convictions questioned or ridiculed.
Those moments can make us hesitant.
Quiet.
Reluctant to speak.
Yet Paul didn’t stop proclaiming Christ because some mocked.
He understood that faithfulness is measured by obedience, not by applause.
Not everyone will understand our faith.
Not everyone will agree with it.
And not everyone will receive it warmly.
But the value of the truth does not depend on the response it receives.
Today, don’t measure your faithfulness by how others react.
Measure it by whether you remain true to Christ.
Speak with kindness.
Live with integrity.
Show grace.
Walk in humility.
And trust God with the results.
You may never know how your witness affects another person.
A conversation that seems ignored today may bear fruit years later.
Our responsibility is not to control the response.
It is to remain faithful to the truth.
Closing Prayer
Lord,
When pressure rises, I sometimes become concerned about what others think of me.
I hesitate to speak.
I hesitate to stand firm.
I hesitate to live openly as Your disciple.
Forgive me for the times I allow fear of rejection to become greater than my trust in You.
Give me courage to remain faithful, even when others do not understand.
Help me speak the truth with gentleness, live with humility, and reflect Your love in all that I do.
When I am mocked, grant me patience.
When I am discouraged, grant me perseverance.
And when I am tempted to remain silent, remind me that my calling is not to win approval, but to follow Christ.
May my life bear witness to Your goodness, and may I trust You with every result.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit,
Amen.
