He Hath Given Assurance Unto All Men

Acts 17:31 · 2026-06-06

The resurrection of Jesus Christ stands as God’s assurance that His promises are true and that our hope is secure.

As Paul speaks in Athens, he is addressing people who value evidence.

Reason.

Philosophy.

They want answers.

Proof.

Something they can examine and consider.

Paul has told them that God calls all people everywhere to repent.

He’s spoken of a coming day of righteous judgment.

Now he explains why these things can be trusted.

Because God has provided assurance.

Not merely an idea.

Not a theory.

But an event in history that points directly to His truth.

Scripture Reading

31 Whereof He hath given assurance unto all men, in that He hath raised Him from the dead.

Devotional Reflection

Every promise rests upon the trustworthiness of the one making it.

If we doubt the person, we doubt the promise.

Paul says that God has given assurance unto all men.

How?

By raising Jesus from the dead.

The resurrection is more than a miracle.

It’s God’s declaration that Christ is who He claimed to be.

That His sacrifice was accepted.

That death has been conquered.

And that the promises of God can be trusted.

The resurrection stands as God’s confirmation that His plan of salvation is real.

Most of us desire certainty.

We want reassurance when facing difficult decisions.

Comfort when the future feels uncertain.

Confidence that our faith isn’t misplaced.

Yet life rarely provides complete certainty about tomorrow.

We can’t see every outcome.

We can’t predict every circumstance.

But God has given us something greater.

He’s given us Christ.

And He’s given us the testimony of the resurrection.

When doubts arise, we return to that foundation.

The tomb was empty.

Christ is risen.

And because He lives, our hope is secure.

Today, consider where you are placing your confidence.

Is it in circumstances?

Success?

Other people?

All of those things can change.

But Christ remains the same.

When uncertainty enters your day, return your thoughts to the resurrection.

Closing Prayer

Lord,

At times I look for certainty in places that cannot provide it.

I place my confidence in circumstances, plans, or expectations, only to find that they quickly change.

Thank You for giving me a firmer foundation.

Thank You for the resurrection of Your Son.

Thank You for the assurance that Your promises are true, Your love is faithful, and Your salvation is secure.

When doubts arise, help me remember what You have already done.

When fears grow, remind me that Christ has conquered death.

And when the future feels uncertain, teach me to rest in the confidence that You remain sovereign over all things.

Strengthen my faith.

Steady my heart.

And help me walk each day with hope rooted in the risen Christ.

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit,

Amen.
