God Commandeth All Men Every Where to Repent

Acts 17:30 · 2026-06-04

Repentance is God’s invitation to turn back toward Him, not in condemnation, but in mercy, restoration, and renewed life.

Paul is still speaking in Athens.

The people around him have spent their lives searching for truth.

They have philosophies.

Traditions.

Questions about the divine.

Paul has already told them about the God who created all things.

The God who gives life and breath to everyone.

The God who is not far from any one of us.

Now his message reaches a turning point.

Because once truth is revealed, a response is required.

And in today’s passage, Paul tells his listeners what God now calls every person to do.

Scripture Reading

30 The times of this ignorance therefore God overlooked; but now commandeth all men every where to repent.

Devotional Reflection

Paul’s words are simple and direct.

God commandeth all men everywhere to repent.

Repentance means more than feeling regret.

It means turning.

Changing direction.

Choosing a different path.

God does not issue this call because He desires our condemnation.

He issues it because He desires our restoration.

The One who created us calls us back to Himself.

And that invitation extends to everyone.

Most of us know what it feels like to miss a turn.

Perhaps we become distracted.

Perhaps we assume we’re headed the right way.

Sometimes we travel farther than intended before realizing we’ve gone off course.

The same can happen in our spiritual lives.

We drift.

Slowly.

Almost unnoticed.

A habit forms.

A priority changes.

A distraction grows.

And before long, we find ourselves farther from God than we intended to be.

Repentance begins when we recognize that drift and choose to turn back.

Today, ask the Lord to show you if there is an area of your life that needs a course correction.

Not a complete overhaul.

Not ten changes at once.

Just one faithful step.

One prayer.

One act of obedience.

One decision that turns your heart more fully toward Christ.

Small turns often place us back on the right road.

Closing Prayer

Lord,

Too easily, I become distracted by the many things competing for my attention.

I follow my own plans, my own desires, and my own understanding, without realizing how far I have drifted.

Yet You continue to call me back.

Thank You for Your patience.

Thank You for Your mercy.

Thank You for never abandoning me to walk alone.

Help me recognize the places where I need to turn toward You.

Give me the humility to listen to Your voice and the courage to follow where You lead.

When I wander, guide me.

When I stumble, restore me.

And when I lose sight of the path, help me remember that Your invitation is always one of love.

May my heart remain open to Your correction, my spirit responsive to Your grace, and my life increasingly shaped by Your will.

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit,

Amen.
