Sent Forth by the Holy Ghost

Acts 13:4 · 2026-05-27

Barnabas and Saul begin their journey trusting that the same Spirit who calls also guides, strengthens, and sustains.

Yesterday, we saw the believers in Antioch ministering to the Lord through prayer, worship, and fasting.

And in that atmosphere of devotion, the Holy Spirit spoke.

Barnabas and Saul were set apart for a new work.

Now comes the next step.

Not merely hearing the call,

but going.

And Scripture makes something important clear from the very beginning.

They’re not being sent out alone.

They are being sent forth by the Holy Ghost.

Scripture Reading

4 So they, being sent forth by the Holy Ghost, departed unto Seleucia; and from thence they sailed to Cyprus.

Devotional Reflection

There’s a difference between being driven by pressure and being led by God.

Barnabas and Saul aren’t rushing ahead out of ambition or impulse.

They’re responding to the Spirit’s direction.

This matters deeply.

Because the Christian life is not meant to be lived through self-reliance alone.

God does not merely point toward a path and leave us there.

He guides.

He strengthens.

He accompanies.

We often want certainty before we begin.

A complete plan.

A guaranteed outcome.

Every detail in place.

But many times, God gives direction one step at a time.

Barnabas and Saul begin the journey without knowing everything ahead.

Yet they move forward because they trust the One sending them.

And that trust becomes enough.

Today, pay attention to where God may be leading you.

Perhaps it’s a conversation.

A responsibility.

A season of change.

A quiet act of obedience.

Don’t focus only on the uncertainty ahead.

Remember who goes with you.

You are not asked to carry the journey alone.

The same Spirit who calls also sustains.

Closing Prayer

Lord,

There are moments when the path ahead feels uncertain to me.

I want clarity, security, and complete understanding before I move forward.

Yet You often lead one step at a time.

Teach me to trust Your guidance.

When You call me forward, give me willingness to follow.

When fear or hesitation rises, remind me that I do not walk alone.

Let Your Spirit guide my decisions, steady my heart, and strengthen me for whatever lies ahead.

Keep me from being driven only by pressure, anxiety, or ambition.

Instead, teach me to move with peace, attentiveness, and trust in Your direction.

Because wherever You send me, Your presence goes before me.

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit,

Amen.
