God Is No Respecter of Persons

Acts 10:34–35 · 2026-05-18

Peter realizes that God's mercy extends beyond human boundaries, and that every sincere heart is welcomed by Him.

Peter has been led into unfamiliar territory.

He’s entered the home of Cornelius.

He’s witnessed a sincere desire to know God.

And now, the lesson becomes clear.

What began as a vision becomes a realization.

A truth that reshapes Peter’s understanding.

And in that moment, he speaks words that continue to echo through the life of the Church.

Scripture Reading

34 Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons:

35 But in every nation he that feareth Him, and worketh righteousness, is accepted with Him.

Devotional Reflection

God does not measure people by the categories that often divide us.

He sees the heart.

He sees sincerity.

Reverence.

Faith.

The desire to walk in truth.

This doesn’t mean all paths are the same.

It means that God’s invitation is wider than human expectations.

His mercy reaches farther than we imagine.

It’s easy to sort people into categories.

Those who seem familiar.

Those who seem different.

Those we understand.

Those we do not.

But God looks deeper.

He sees the soul.

He sees the searching heart.

He sees the possibility of transformation.

And when we begin to see others this way, our own hearts become larger.

Practice reverence and openness.

Ask God to help you see others with greater humility and compassion.

Look beyond appearances.

Look beyond assumptions.

Look beyond the labels that can cloud your judgment.

And remember this as well:

God’s mercy extends to you.

No background, failure, or limitation places you beyond His reach.

His invitation is personal.

And His grace is available now.

Closing Prayer

Lord,

You do not see as we see.

Where I am tempted to judge by appearances, teach me to look more deeply.

Where I draw boundaries too quickly, expand my heart with Your compassion.

Help me to recognize Your image in every person, and to treat others with humility, respect, and love.

Remind me that Your mercy is greater than the categories I create.

And when I feel unworthy or distant, assure me that Your invitation extends to me as well.

Shape my heart to reflect Your kindness.

Widen my understanding.

And teach me to rejoice in the breadth of Your grace.

Because You are no respecter of persons, and Your mercy reaches farther than I can see.

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, Amen.
