What God Hath Cleansed

Acts 10:15 · 2026-05-17

God invites Peter to release old assumptions and recognize that His mercy extends farther than human expectations.

Peter is praying.

And in that place of prayer, God shows him something unexpected.

A vision that challenges his understanding.

A message that stretches his categories.

A reminder that God’s work is often larger than we imagine.

And through this vision, Peter hears words that continue to speak to us today.

Scripture Reading

15 And the voice spake unto him again the second time, What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common.

Devotional Reflection

Peter had learned to distinguish between what was considered clean and unclean.

These categories had shaped his understanding for years.

But now, God is preparing him to see differently.

Not to abandon holiness—

but to recognize that God’s mercy extends farther than Peter expected.

This is often how God works.

He opens our eyes to possibilities we had not considered.

We all carry assumptions.

About people.

About ourselves.

About what God can or cannot do.

Sometimes those assumptions become barriers.

We quietly conclude:

“This person will never change.”

“That situation is beyond hope.”

“God could not work there.”

But God sees more than we do.

And He invites us to let Him redefine what we thought we understood.

Today, ask God to reveal any assumptions that need to be surrendered.

Is there a person you have written off?

A possibility you have dismissed?

A place where God may be working unexpectedly?

Hold your conclusions lightly.

And allow God to show you more.

Because when He opens our eyes, our world becomes wider.

Closing Prayer

Lord,

My understanding is limited, and I do not always see as You see.

I form conclusions, create categories, and sometimes place boundaries where You are extending grace.

Open my eyes.

Help me to release assumptions that no longer reflect Your heart.

Teach me to see others with compassion, to see myself with honesty, and to recognize Your work in places I may have overlooked.

When You challenge my understanding, give me humility to listen.

When You widen my perspective, give me courage to follow.

And let my heart remain open to the surprising ways You continue to work in this world.

Because Your mercy is greater than my expectations.

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, Amen.
