Silver and Gold Have I None

Acts 3:6 (LXX) · 2026-04-24

Peter had no wealth or status to offer, yet he was not empty-handed. God often works not through what we lack, but through what He has already placed within us.

Scripture Reading

6 Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk.

Devotional Reflection

As the early Church began to grow,
the followers of Christ did not have wealth, influence, or status.

They weren’t backed by power.
They didn’t possess great resources.

And yet, they carried something greater.

Today, Peter stands before a man in need.

He can’t offer money.
He can’t solve everything the world might measure as success.

But he’s not empty-handed.

Because what Christ gives
is greater than what money can buy.

“Silver and gold have I none.”

Peter begins with what he lacks.

And yet, he doesn’t stop there.

He moves immediately to what he does have.

The name of Jesus.
Faith.
Authority given by God.
A willingness to act in compassion.

So often, we focus on what we don’t have.

But God can work powerfully
through what we already carry in Him.

We may feel unqualified.

Not enough knowledge.
Not enough resources.
Not enough influence.

But the Kingdom of God
has never depended on abundance of possessions.

It has always moved through willing hearts.

You may not have everything.

But if Christ is with you,
you’re not empty-handed.

Today, don’t dwell only on what you lack.

Ask instead:

What has God already placed in my hands?

A kind word.
A listening ear.
A prayer.
Wisdom gained through hardship.
Encouragement for someone who is weary.

Offer what you have.

God often multiplies
what we’re willing to give.

Closing Prayer

Lord,

I so often notice what I do not have.

I compare,
I measure,
I assume I am limited
because I lack what others possess.

But You remind me
that Your work is not dependent
on wealth, status, or outward strength.

Open my eyes to see
what You have already placed within me.

Give me faith to offer
what I have been given—
my time,
my compassion,
my experience,
my voice,
my prayers.

When I feel inadequate,
remind me that Your strength
is greater than my limitations.

Use what I bring, however small,
for Your purposes.

And teach me to walk through this day
not focused on what I lack,
but confident in what You supply.

Because with You, Lord,
I am never empty-handed.

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit,
Amen.
