All Things in Common

Acts 2:44–45 (LXX) · 2026-04-23

As the Spirit transformed the early Church, generosity began to flow naturally. When Christ becomes central, possessions lose their power and love begins to shape how we hold what we have.

Scripture Reading

44 And all that believed were together, and had all things common;
45 And sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had need.

Devotional Reflection

We’ve begun to see what happened
when the Holy Spirit filled the early Church.

They devoted themselves to truth.
To fellowship.
To prayer.

And as their hearts were transformed,
their lives began to change as well.

Because spiritual renewal
does not remain private for long.

It begins to shape
how we see one another…
and how we hold what we have.

All things in common.

The early believers weren’t forced into generosity.

Their hearts had changed.

What they once viewed as “mine”
was now seen through a different lens.

A gift.
A resource.
Something that could bless another.

When Christ becomes central,
possessions lose their power.

And people gain value.

We all hold onto something.

• Money.
• Time.
• Comfort.
• Control.

Not always out of greed—
sometimes out of fear.

But the Gospel gently asks:

Can you trust God enough
to open your hands?

Because closed hands
cannot receive…

and they cannot give.

Today, look for one way
to live with open hands.

Share your time.
Offer encouragement.
Meet a need if you can.
Give quietly and gladly.

Generosity is not measured only in amount.

It’s measured in love.

And often, the smallest gifts
carry the greatest grace.

Closing Prayer

Lord,

Everything I have
has come from Your hand.

And yet, I often cling tightly
to what was meant to be shared.

I hold back out of fear,
out of uncertainty,
out of the desire to protect myself.

But You invite me into a freer way of living.

Teach me to live with open hands
and an open heart.

Help me to trust
that generosity does not diminish me—
it forms me.

Show me the needs around me.

Make me attentive, willing, and compassionate.

Whether I give time, resources, kindness, or care,
let me do it with joy.

And as I learn to loosen my grip,
fill me with the peace that comes
from trusting You as my provider.

Because what I give in love
is never lost.

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit,
Amen.
