He Descended

1 Peter 3:18–19 (LXX) · 2026-04-10

Between the Cross and the Resurrection lies a hidden movement. Christ descends—not in defeat, but in power—bringing light into the deepest darkness and hope into what feels beyond reach.

Scripture Reading

18 For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit:
19 By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison;

Devotional Reflection

Yesterday, we stood at the empty tomb.

But today…
we step into something deeper.

Because between the Cross and the Resurrection,
there’s a mystery.

A hidden movement.
A silent victory.

While the world saw stillness…
Christ wasn’t inactive.

He descended.

Not in defeat.
But in power.

There is no place that
Christ is unwilling to go.

Not even death.
Not even the depths.
Not even what feels completely lost.

He enters into Hades itself—
into the place of darkness, separation, and silence—
and fills it with His presence.

This is not just victory over death.

This is invasion.

Light entering the darkest place imaginable.

We all have places like this.

Areas of our lives that feel buried.
Forgotten.
Too far gone to be restored.

We assume things like:
“This is beyond healing,” or, “This is beyond redemption.”

But Holy Saturday tells us:

There is no depth
Christ cannot reach.

No darkness
He cannot enter.

No place
He cannot redeem.

What have you locked away?

What have you assumed
God will not touch?

Today, don’t try to fix it.

Just open the door.

Invite Christ
into the place you’ve avoided.

Because He does not wait
for things to be cleaned up.

He enters first—
and brings life with Him.

Closing Prayer

Lord,

You are not distant from the depths—
You entered them.

You did not avoid darkness—
You overcame it from within.

And yet, there are places in my life
I keep hidden.

Places I believe are too broken,
too buried,
too far gone.

But nothing is beyond You.

Give me the courage
to open every part of my life to You—
even the places I’ve avoided.

Step into my fears,
my wounds,
my hidden struggles.

Bring Your light
into what feels dark.

Bring Your life
into what feels lifeless.

And remind me that wherever You are—
even in the depths—
hope is never lost.

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit,
Amen.
