The Hour Has Come

John 12:23–24 (LXX) · 2026-04-06

We’ve come to a turning point. As Jesus approaches the Cross, He speaks with clarity: the hour has come. In the Kingdom of God, glory is revealed through surrender.

Scripture Reading

23 And Jesus answered them, saying, The hour is come, that the Son of man should be glorified.

24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a grain of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit.

Devotional Reflection

We’ve come to a quiet turning point.

Not the beginning of the journey…
but the beginning of the end.

And for Jesus, this is not a surprise.

It’s not something happening to Him.
It’s something He is walking toward.

Because now, He says:

“The hour has come.”

Not later.
Not eventually.
Now.

When we hear the word glory,
we often think of victory…
of triumph…
of something visible and powerful.

But Jesus speaks of glory at the very moment that He’s moving toward the Cross.

Because in the Kingdom of God,
glory doesn’t come through avoiding sacrifice.
It comes through it.

“The hour has come.”

There’s a moment in every life when things become clear.

When we can no longer delay…
no longer avoid…
no longer stay where we are.

And in that moment, we are invited to trust.

Like the grain of wheat, something must be placed into the ground.

Something must be released.

Not because it’s lost—
but because it’s being transformed.

This is not a call to do more.
It’s a call to let go.

What are you holding onto that God is asking you to release?

• A fear?
• A need for control?
• A version of your life that no longer fits?

Surrender is not failure.

It’s the doorway to something deeper.

Closing Prayer

Lord,

You walked toward the Cross
with clarity, with purpose, and with trust.

And yet, I often resist the very things
that could lead to growth in my life.

I hold on tightly
to what feels safe, familiar, and within my control.

But You show me a different way.

Give me the courage to surrender
what You are asking me to release.

Help me to trust that what feels like loss
may be the beginning of something new.

Teach me that in Your Kingdom,
life comes through letting go…
and fruit comes through faithfulness.

When I am afraid of what lies ahead,
remind me that You are already there.

And as I continue this journey,
help me to walk forward—
not with fear,
but with trust in Your purpose.

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit,
Amen.
