Scripture Reading
34 Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.
Devotional Reflection
As Great Lent continues, we begin to notice not only what we do…
but where our minds tend to live.
So often, we are not here.
We are in tomorrow—
anticipating, planning, replaying, worrying, preparing.
And in doing so, we quietly step out of the present moment.
But today, Christ gently calls us back.
Jesus doesn’t just speak about worry.
He speaks about where we live.
We often live in imagined futures—
trying to solve problems that have not yet arrived.
But God doesn’t meet us in imagined tomorrows.
He meets us here.
• In this moment.
• In this breath.
• In this step.
The present moment is where grace is given.
When we live in tomorrow, we miss what is happening now.
We miss the prayer in front of us.
The person in front of us.
The quiet work God is doing within us.
Tomorrow feels important.
But today is where transformation actually happens.
This is where God is forming your heart.
Today, practice returning.
When your mind drifts ahead, gently bring it back.
• Back to your breath.
• Back to your task.
• Back to your prayer.
You don’t need to solve tomorrow.
You need to be faithful today.
And God will meet you there.
Closing Prayer
Lord,
You are present with me here and now, even when my mind wanders far from You.
Draw my attention back to the place where You are already at work.
When I drift into worry about tomorrow, gently return me to this moment.
When I become distracted or restless, steady my heart in Your presence.
Teach me to live this day fully—
to receive it as a gift,
to walk through it with awareness,
and to trust that Your grace is sufficient for what is before me.
Help me not to rush ahead of You,
but to walk with You, step by step.
And in learning to remain with You today,
prepare my heart for whatever tomorrow may bring.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit,
Amen.
