The Good Samaritan

Luke 10:33–34 (LXX) · 2026-03-20

Christ’s parable of the Good Samaritan reveals that true compassion is not only felt—it is lived out through action.

Scripture Reading

33 But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was: and when he saw him, he had compassion on him.

34 And went to him, and bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine, and set him on his own beast, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him.

Devotional Reflection

Christ’s teachings about love and mercy often become most powerful through His parables.

Today we hear a moment from one of His most famous stories.

It reveals what compassion truly looks like.

The Samaritan doesn’t simply feel sympathy.

He acts.

He stops his journey.
He tends wounds.
He sacrifices time and resources.

Compassion becomes real when it moves our hands and feet.

Often we imagine grand acts of charity.

But the kingdom of God grows through simple acts of mercy.

Helping the person in front of us.
Listening with patience.
Offering kindness in moments of need.

Today, look for one opportunity to help someone quietly.

A word of encouragement.
A practical act of care.
A moment of patience.

Mercy is the language of the kingdom of God.

Closing Prayer

Lord,
Open my eyes to the needs around me.
Help me to see others not with indifference or distraction, but with the compassion that comes from Your heart.
Give me a compassionate spirit that does not turn away when someone is hurting or in need.
Remove the hesitation that keeps me from helping, and replace it with courage and kindness.
Teach me to act with mercy when I see someone suffering.
Let my hands be ready to serve, my words ready to comfort, and my presence ready to bring peace.
Guard my heart from judgment, and help me respond instead with patience and understanding.
And let my life reflect Your love in quiet and faithful ways, so that through small acts of mercy others may glimpse Your goodness.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit,
Amen.
