Take No Thought

Matthew 6:25 (LXX) · 2026-03-12

After warning that we cannot serve two masters, Jesus turns to one of the deepest struggles of the human heart—worry. His invitation is not denial of our needs, but trust in the God who sustains our lives.

Scripture Reading

25 Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on.
Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?

Devotional Reflection

After warning us that we cannot serve two masters, Jesus turns to one of the deepest struggles of the human heart:

Worry.

If we release false masters like wealth, control, or security, a question immediately rises:

What will hold my life together?

Christ answers that question with a surprising command.

Jesus is not ignoring our needs. He’s correcting our perspective.

Food matters.
Clothing matters.
Daily responsibilities matter.

But life is more than survival.

When worry dominates our minds, it shrinks our vision until all we see are immediate problems. Christ widens the horizon again.

Life is more.

Worry feels productive.

It tricks us into thinking we are solving problems. But most of the time, anxiety simply drains our strength without changing our circumstances.

Christ’s invitation is radical:

Release the illusion of control.
Trust the One who sustains your life.

Today, notice where worry tends to live in your thoughts.

What keeps repeating?
What keeps tightening your chest?

Bring that concern into prayer. Not as a demand for immediate solutions — but as an act of trust.

Closing Prayer

Lord,
You know the worries that fill my mind.
Teach me to release them into Your care.
Remind me that my life is more than the problems I face today.
Strengthen my trust in Your provision.
And give me peace that does not depend on circumstances.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit,
Amen.
