Hope has a remarkable way of changing how we endure the present.
A traveler presses on because he knows home is just ahead.
A farmer patiently waits because he trusts that the harvest will come.
A mother endures the pain of childbirth because she knows new life is about to enter the world.
Hope does not erase hardship.
It gives hardship a purpose.
That is the kind of hope Paul carried with him.
He had endured imprisonment, persecution, beatings, hunger, and rejection.
Yet he continued forward with unwavering joy.
Why?
Because his eyes were fixed on something beyond the struggles of this life.
He was living in anticipation of the resurrection.

Devotional Reflection
At first glance,
Paul’s words may sound uncertain.
“If by any means I might attain unto the resurrection of the dead.”
But Paul isn’t doubting God’s promise.
Throughout his letters,
he speaks with complete confidence
that Christ will raise those who belong to Him.
Here, he’s expressing the deep longing
of someone whose entire life is directed toward that glorious day.
Every sacrifice.
Every act of obedience.
Every hardship endured for Christ.
All of it is worthwhile
because it leads toward the fulfillment of God’s promise.
Paul was not living merely for this world.
He was living with eternity in view.
It’s easy to think of heaven
only when we attend a funeral
or face a difficult season.
But the hope of the resurrection
is meant to shape our lives every day.
When we remember that death isn’t the end,
fear begins to lose its grip.
When we remember that Christ will make all things new,
discouragement no longer has the final word.
When we remember that our true home is with Him,
we become less attached to the temporary things of this world.
Hope is not an escape from reality.
It’s the lens through which we see reality most clearly.
Because Christ lives,
our future is secure.
And because our future is secure,
we can live faithfully in the present.
Today, whatever burden you may be carrying,
lift your eyes beyond the immediate moment.
The disappointment you feel today is not the end of your story.
The grief you carry today will not last forever.
The struggle against sin will one day be over.
The body that grows weary will one day be raised in glory.
The tears you shed today will one day be wiped away by the hand of God.
Let that hope strengthen you.
Not so that you withdraw from the world,
but so that you can serve Christ with greater courage,
greater joy, and greater peace.
Those who know where they’re going
can walk through difficult roads
without losing heart.
Closing Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for the living hope You have given us through the resurrection of Your Son.
When I become consumed by the troubles of this present life, lift my eyes to the promises that cannot fail.
Help me to remember that this world is not my final home.
Strengthen me to persevere when the path is difficult.
Comfort me when sorrow weighs heavily upon my heart.
Fill me with the quiet confidence that comes from knowing Christ has conquered death forever.
May the hope of the resurrection shape my choices, my priorities, and my outlook each day.
Teach me to live faithfully now, while longing joyfully for the day when I shall see You face to face and share in the resurrection You have promised to all who love You.
Through Jesus Christ, our risen Lord, to whom be glory with the Father and the Holy Spirit, now and ever and unto ages of ages.
