And Be Found In Him

Philippians 3:9 · 2026-07-18

Paul reminds us that our peace before God rests not in our own righteousness, but in the gift of Christ’s righteousness received through faith.

There’s something within each of us

that wants to prove our worth.

We want to feel that we have earned our place.

That we have done enough.

That we somehow deserve God’s acceptance.

Yet if we’re honest,

we also know our own weaknesses.

We know the words we wish we could take back.

The opportunities we’ve missed.

The sins we’ve confessed more than once.

If our hope depended upon our own goodness,

we would never find lasting peace.

Paul knew this better than anyone.

After describing all the accomplishments he once treasured,

he now reveals what truly gives him confidence—

not what he had done for God,

but what God had done for him through Christ.

Scripture Reading

9And be found in Him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith.

Devotional Reflection

Paul’s greatest desire is beautifully simple.

“To be found in Him.”

Not found in his accomplishments.

Not found in his reputation.

Not found in his religious devotion.

Found in Christ.

That is the heart of the Gospel.

When God looks upon those who belong to Christ,

He doesn’t see people desperately trying to earn His favor.

He sees sons and daughters clothed in the righteousness of His Son.

This righteousness isn’t a reward for perfect performance.

It’s a gift of grace received through faith.

That truth frees us from the exhausting burden of trying to save ourselves.

Many of us spend our lives striving.

Trying to be enough.

To accomplish enough.

To prove ourselves.

Even our spiritual lives can become another place

where we feel we must earn God’s approval.

But Paul invites us into something far more peaceful.

He invites us to rest.

To rest,

not because holiness no longer matters,

but because our relationship with God begins with His grace.

Obedience becomes a response to His love,

not an attempt to earn it.

The more deeply we understand that,

the more joyfully we follow Him.

Grace does not make us careless.

It makes us grateful.

Today,

if you find yourself discouraged by your failures,

remember where your hope truly rests.

Confess your sins honestly.

Receive God’s forgiveness with humility.

Then continue walking with Christ.

Don’t remain trapped in guilt

over what He has already forgiven.

His mercy is greater than your failures.

His grace is stronger than your weakness.

Today,

choose to rest—

not in your own righteousness,

but in the righteousness of Christ.

Closing Prayer

Lord Jesus,

How often I carry burdens You have already invited me to lay down.

I remember my failures more readily than I remember Your mercy.

I dwell upon my weaknesses more than I rejoice in Your grace.

Thank You for loving me, not because I have earned it,

but because You are rich in mercy.

Thank You for clothing me in a righteousness that I could never obtain on my own.

Teach me to live each day with humble gratitude.

When I stumble,

draw me back to You.

When I become discouraged,

remind me that my hope rests securely in Your finished work.

And when I am tempted to trust in myself,

help me instead to rest in the peace of being found in You.

For You are my righteousness,

my salvation,

and my everlasting hope.

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit,

Amen.
