Earlier in Acts, we saw Barnabas step forward to encourage Saul.
When others hesitated, Barnabas believed that God was truly at work.
Today, Scripture reveals what made him that kind of person.
Not his title.
Not his accomplishments.
But his character.
And in just a few words, we are given a portrait of spiritual maturity.
Scripture Reading
24 For he was a good man, and full of the Holy Ghost and of faith.
Devotional Reflection
Barnabas is remembered first for who he was.
A good man.
Full of the Holy Spirit.
Full of faith.
Before his encouragement,
before his leadership,
before his visible impact—
there was a life shaped by God.
This is an important reminder.
Influence that lasts is rooted in character.
We often focus on visible outcomes.
Achievements.
Recognition.
Results.
But Scripture points us somewhere deeper.
Goodness.
Faith.
A heart filled with God’s Spirit.
These qualities may not attract attention.
But they quietly shape every conversation,
every decision,
and every act of service.
And over time, they leave a lasting mark.
Today, focus less on what you hope to accomplish
and more on who you are becoming.
Ask God to cultivate goodness.
To deepen your faith.
To fill you with His Spirit.
Because when the inner life is healthy, the outward life begins to bear fruit naturally.
And even small acts of faithfulness can become a blessing to many.
Closing Prayer
Lord,
Thank You for Your servant Barnabas.
He is remembered not only for what he did, but for the kind of person he had become.
Form that same character within me.
Make me a person of goodness, steadiness, and sincere faith.
Fill me with Your Holy Spirit.
Shape my thoughts, my words, and my actions so that they reflect Your presence.
Help me to care more about inner growth than outward recognition.
And let my life become a quiet source of encouragement to those around me.
Because the fruit that lasts begins in a heart formed by You.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, Amen.
