As the Church grows, the followers of Jesus begin to stand out.
Their lives are different.
Their priorities are changing.
Their love for one another is visible.
And people begin searching for a way to describe them.
In Antioch, they are given a name.
A simple name.
But one that speaks to the center of who they are.
Christians.
People who belong to Christ.
Scripture Reading
26 And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.
Devotional Reflection
This name was more than a label.
It was a recognition.
These people were so closely associated with Christ that others identified them by Him.
This is the heart of the Christian life.
Our identity is not rooted primarily in our achievements,
our failures,
our titles,
or our past.
It is rooted in belonging.
We belong to Christ.
We all carry many identities.
Parent.
Friend.
Worker.
Student.
Leader.
These roles matter.
But they are not the deepest truth about us.
At the center of everything is this:
We belong to Christ.
And when that identity becomes primary, it reshapes how we see ourselves and how we live.
Today, remember who you belong to.
Before the demands of the day,
before the roles you must fill,
before the expectations you carry—
you are Christ’s.
Let that truth steady you.
Let it guide your choices.
Let it shape your words and actions.
Because when we live from our identity in Him, the rest of life begins to find its proper place.
Closing Prayer
Lord,
Thank You for calling me to belong to You.
So many things compete to define me— my responsibilities, my successes, my failures, and the expectations of others.
But my deepest identity is found in Christ.
Help me to remember that I am Yours.
When I feel uncertain, steady me in that truth.
When I am tempted to measure my worth by what I accomplish, remind me that Your love is the foundation of my life.
Shape my thoughts, my decisions, and my relationships so that they reflect the One to whom I belong.
And let my life bear the quiet marks of someone who walks with Christ.
Because before all else, Lord, I’m a Christian.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, Amen.
