Scripture Reading
39 And when they were come up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught away Philip, that the eunuch saw him no more: and he went on his way rejoicing.
Devotional Reflection
Yesterday, we heard the question:
“What doth hinder me?”
A moment of clarity.
A moment of decision.
A moment of response.
And now, we see what comes next.
Not hesitation.
Not regret.
Joy.
The Ethiopian official doesn’t have everything figured out.
He isn’t given a long roadmap.
Philip is gone.
And yet…
he continues forward with joy.
Because something has changed within him.
He has encountered Christ.
He has responded.
And now, he carries that life with him.
This joy is not based on comfort.
Not on certainty.
Not on ease.
It comes from alignment.
From knowing:
“I have responded.”
“I have stepped forward.”
“I am walking with God.”
There’s a kind of peace
that turns into joy
when we stop resisting
what we know is true.
Today, don’t look backward.
Don’t overanalyze what’s already been decided.
Walk forward.
Trust that God is with you.
Let your steps be steady.
Let your heart be light.
Joy doesn’t always arrive loudly.
Sometimes, it settles quietly
when we’re finally moving
in the right direction.
Closing Prayer
Lord,
When I take steps toward You,
remind me to walk forward in peace.
I can so easily return to doubt,
to second-guessing,
to questioning what I have already placed in Your hands.
But You invite me into something better.
Give me a steady heart
that does not look back with fear,
but moves forward with trust.
Let joy grow within me—
not because everything is certain,
but because You are with me.
When I am tempted to overthink,
quiet my mind.
When I am tempted to carry unnecessary weight,
lighten my heart.
And as I continue on this path,
help me to walk freely,
confident that every step with You
leads to life.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit,
Amen.
