Scripture Reading
33 And with great power gave the apostles witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus: and great grace was upon them all.
Devotional Reflection
We’ve seen the early believers speak with courage.
We’ve seen them stand firm under pressure.
But boldness alone does not build a lasting community.
Something deeper is needed.
Something gentler…
and stronger at the same time.
And today, Scripture gives us the reason the early Church flourished.
Not strategy.
Not influence.
Grace.
Notice the two gifts in this verse:
- Great power.
- Great grace.
Power gave witness.
But grace sustained them.
Grace shaped how they lived together.
How they forgave.
How they endured hardship.
How they remained united.
Without grace, power can become harsh.
But when grace is present,
strength becomes life-giving.
We often think first about effort.
How hard we work.
How much we know.
How capable we seem.
But the early Church reminds us
that what matters most
is not only what we produce—
but what rests upon us.
Is it anxiety?
Pressure?
Restlessness?
Or the grace of God?
Grace is not weakness.
It’s the quiet strength
that makes love possible.
So make room for grace.
Don’t rely on effort alone.
Pause.
Invite God’s grace into your thoughts, your words, your relationships.
Where tension rises, bring grace.
Where impatience rises, bring grace.
Where self-reliance rises, receive grace.
You don’t need to force everything forward.
Some things grow best under grace.
Closing Prayer
Lord,
I thank You that You do not ask me
to live by strength alone.
You offer grace;
steady, sustaining, and enough for every day.
Yet I’m quick to rely on effort,
to push beyond peace,
and to carry burdens
as though everything depends on me.
Teach me to receive what You freely give.
Let Your grace rest upon my mind
when I feel overwhelmed.
Let Your grace rest upon my heart
when I grow impatient or discouraged.
Let Your grace rest upon my relationships
so that I may respond with gentleness and wisdom.
Where I am weak, strengthen me.
Where I am hurried, slow me.
Where I am anxious, steady me.
And help me remember
that Your grace is not merely an idea—
it is Your presence at work within me.
Let me walk through this day
covered by that grace.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit,
Amen.
