Feed My Sheep

John 21:17 (LXX) · 2026-04-17

Following Christ is not only about where we go, but how we live. In restoring Peter, Jesus shows that love for Him takes shape in care, service, and quiet acts of compassion.

Scripture Reading

17 He saith unto him the third time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved because He said unto him the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said unto Him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith unto him, Feed my sheep.

Devotional Reflection

Yesterday, we heard Christ’s call:

“Follow Me.”

A personal invitation.
A step forward.

But today, that call takes shape.

Because following Christ is not only about where we go.
It’s about how we live.

And in one of the most intimate moments after the Resurrection,
Jesus speaks again to Peter.

Not about belief.
Not about failure.

But about love.

“Feed my sheep.”

Jesus does not leave love as a feeling.

He gives it direction.

If you love Me—care for others.
If you love Me—serve.
If you love Me—give.

Love for Christ is not proven in words alone.

It’s lived out in how we treat those around us.

Peter had denied Jesus three times.

And now, three times,
Jesus invites him to respond in love.

Not to shame him.
But to restore him.

Each question…
each response…
is a step forward.

A reminder that failure
does not cancel the call.

It deepens it.

Today, don’t overcomplicate what it means to follow Christ.

Look at the people around you.

Who needs encouragement?
Who needs patience?
Who needs care?

You don’t need a grand opportunity.

You need awareness.

Love is often lived out
in small, quiet ways.

And those moments matter.

Closing Prayer

Lord,

You have shown me what love looks like—
not in words alone,
but in action.

And still, I often hesitate.
I hold back.
I miss the opportunities in front of me.

Open my eyes to see
where I am being called to serve.

Give me a heart that is attentive,
patient, and willing.

Teach me to love not only in intention,
but in what I do each day.

When I feel unworthy,
remind me that You still call me forward.

When I feel unsure,
guide me in simple acts of care and compassion.

And as I follow You,
help me to reflect Your love
to those You place in my path.

Because to love You
is to love them.

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit,
Amen.
