Abide in Me

John 15:4–5 (LXX) · 2026-03-29

Christ calls us not to strive for spiritual growth, but to remain connected to Him—the true source of life and transformation.

Scripture Reading

4 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.

5 I am the vine, ye are the branches: he that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.

Devotional Reflection

As we continue this Lenten journey, we begin to see a pattern.

When we remain present, we find peace.

And when we find peace, we begin to ask a deeper question:

How do we stay here?

How do we remain grounded…
steady…
connected?

Because it’s one thing to experience a moment of closeness with God.

It’s another to live from it.

And today, Christ gives us the answer.

Jesus doesn’t say, “Try harder.”

He says, “Abide.”

• Remain.
• Stay.
• Be connected.

The branch doesn’t struggle to produce fruit.

It simply remains attached to the vine.

And from that connection, life flows naturally.

This changes everything.

Spiritual growth is not something we force.

It’s something we receive.

So often, we try to produce what only God can give.

We try to manufacture patience.
Force peace.
Create transformation through effort alone.

But Christ reminds us:

Apart from Him, we can do nothing.

Not because we are weak—

but because we were never meant to live disconnected from the Source.

When we drift, we feel it.

• Dryness.
• Fatigue.
• Restlessness.

But when we return—

life begins to flow again.

Today, don’t rush past your connection with God.

Make space.

Even if it’s brief.
Even if it’s quiet.

Pause in prayer.
Return to Scripture.
Turn your attention back to Him throughout the day.

Abiding isn’t complicated.

It is simply choosing, again and again, to remain.

Closing Prayer

Lord,
You are the true source of life, and apart from You, I can do nothing.
So often, I try to live on my own strength—
to produce what only Your Spirit can grow within me.
Draw me back to You.
Help me remain connected, even in the midst of a busy and distracted day.
When I begin to drift, gently call me back.
When I feel dry or weary, restore me with Your presence.
Teach me to abide—
not just in moments of prayer,
but in the way I live, think, and move throughout the day.
Let Your life flow through me.
Let Your Spirit shape what I cannot change on my own.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit,
Amen.
