Be Still Before the Lord

Psalm 45:10 (LXX) · 2026-03-03

As Great Lent continues, Scripture gives us a command that feels almost impossible in a noisy world: Be still. Stillness is not weakness — it is surrender.

Scripture Reading

10 Be still, and know that I am God:
I will be exalted among the heathen,
I will be exalted in the earth.

Devotional Reflection

As we continue through Great Lent, the pace of life does not automatically slow down.

Our schedules remain full.
Our minds remain noisy.
Our responsibilities continue.

And yet Scripture gives us a command that feels almost impossible:

Be still.

Today we turn to the Psalms, where stillness is not weakness — but surrender.

Today, intentionally build one moment of stillness.

No phone.
No music.
No multitasking.

Just presence.

Let the quiet feel uncomfortable at first.

Stay there.

Stillness is where surrender deepens.

Closing Prayer

Lord,
Teach me to be still.
Calm the restless parts of my heart.
Quiet my need to control, explain, or defend.
Help me trust that You are God — even when I am silent.
Let this Lent reshape my inner noise into peace.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit,
Amen.
