Holding Forth the Word of Life

Philippians 2:16 · 2026-06-28

Paul reminds us that believers shine in the world by faithfully holding forth God's Word, allowing its truth to guide our lives and point others to Christ.

Light is meant to reveal.

To guide.

To help others find their way.

Yesterday,

Paul reminded us that believers are called to shine as lights in the world.

Today he tells us how that light continues to shine.

Not through our own ideas.

Not through our own accomplishments.

But by holding forth the Word of Life.

In a world filled with countless opinions,

changing values,

and uncertain voices,

God has given us something that never changes.

His Word.

And it continues to bring life to every heart that receives it.

Scripture Reading

16 Holding forth the word of life; that I may rejoice in the day of Christ, that I have not run in vain, neither laboured in vain.

Devotional Reflection

Paul describes the Gospel as the Word of Life.

It’s more than information.

More than wise teaching.

It’s God’s living message.

It reveals Christ.

It strengthens faith.

It offers hope.

And it leads us into eternal life.

We cannot give life to others through our own strength.

But we can faithfully hold forth the Word that has first given life to us.

As we remain rooted in Scripture,

our lives become steady.

Our hope becomes stronger.

And our witness becomes clearer.

Imagine someone walking through the darkness carrying a lantern.

The lantern does not create the path.

It simply makes the path visible.

That is our calling as followers of Christ.

We are not asked to invent the truth.

We are not asked to make the Gospel more appealing.

We are simply called to carry it faithfully.

There are people all around us searching for hope.

Searching for peace.

Searching for purpose.

The Word of God continues to illuminate the path that leads to Christ.

When we hold fast to it,

and hold it forth with love,

we become faithful bearers of that light.

Today,

spend a few quiet moments in Scripture.

Read slowly.

Listen carefully.

Ask the Lord to speak to your heart.

Then carry that Word with you throughout the day.

Perhaps a single verse.

A promise.

A reminder of His faithfulness.

Allow God’s Word to shape your thoughts,

guide your decisions,

and encourage your heart.

The more deeply His Word lives within us,

the more naturally it shines through us.

Closing Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for giving us Your living Word.

Thank You that through it we have come to know Christ,

to receive hope,

and to find the path that leads to life.

Plant Your Word deeply within my heart.

May it shape my thoughts,

guide my choices,

and strengthen my faith.

When I am uncertain,

let Your truth steady me.

When I grow weary,

let Your promises encourage me.

And when others are searching for hope,

help me gently point them,

not to myself,

but to Your Son,

the true Word of Life.

May I faithfully carry the light You have entrusted to me,

until the day I stand joyfully in Your presence.

In the name of the Father,

and of the Son,

and of the Holy Spirit,

Amen.
