Yesterday, we heard the jailer ask a desperate and deeply personal question:
“What must I do to be saved?”
This is the most important question a person can ask.
And the answer Paul and Silas give is striking in its simplicity.
Not a complicated system.
Not a list of achievements.
But an invitation.
An invitation to believe.
Scripture Reading
31 And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.
Devotional Reflection
The heart of the Gospel is not self-salvation.
It’s trust in Jesus Christ.
Trust in the One who came,
who suffered,
who died,
and who rose again.
This does not mean faith is shallow or passive.
True belief changes the heart and shapes the life.
But salvation doesn’t begin with proving ourselves worthy.
It begins with turning toward Christ in faith.
Many people carry a quiet burden.
The feeling that they must become good enough before approaching God.
That they must fix themselves first.
Achieve more.
Fail less.
But the Gospel speaks differently.
Grace is received.
Christ meets us where we are and begins the work of transformation from there.
Faith opens the door.
Today, stop striving to carry everything alone.
Bring your fears, failures, questions, and hopes before Christ.
Trust Him.
Not only with eternity—
but with today.
With the burdens you carry.
With the uncertainty ahead.
With the parts of your life still unfinished.
Because faith is not merely agreement in the mind.
It’s the placing of one’s life into His hands.
Closing Prayer
Lord Jesus Christ,
Thank You for the gift of grace.
So often I try to rely on my own strength, my own efforts, or my own understanding.
Yet salvation is not something I can earn.
It is something I receive through faith in You.
Teach me to trust You more deeply.
When fear rises, help me place my confidence in You.
When shame or failure weighs heavily on me, remind me that Your mercy is greater.
And when I become distracted or uncertain, draw my heart back to the simplicity of faith.
Help me not only to believe with my mind, but to entrust my whole life into Your hands.
Because true peace is found not in striving alone, but in resting in You.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit,
Amen.
