Barnabas Took Him

Acts 9:27 · 2026-05-11

Barnabas bridges the gap between Saul and the disciples, reminding us that encouragement and trust can become part of another person's healing and growth.

Saul has changed.

He has encountered Christ.

He has begun preaching boldly.

His life is moving in a completely new direction.

But not everyone trusts him yet.

The disciples remember who he was.

They hesitate to welcome him.

And honestly, that hesitation makes sense.

Then, one man steps forward.

Barnabas.

And with one act of courage and compassion, he helps bridge the distance between Saul and the community he longed to join.

Scripture Reading

27 But Barnabas took him, and brought him to the apostles, and declared unto them how he had seen the Lord in the way, and that he had spoken to him, and how he had preached boldly at Damascus in the name of Jesus.

Devotional Reflection

Barnabas doesn’t ignore Saul’s past.

He simply believes that God’s grace is greater than it.

This matters deeply.

Because transformation often requires encouragement to continue growing.

Sometimes, one person’s willingness to believe in us becomes part of how God leads us forward.

And Barnabas becomes exactly that kind of person.

A bridge.

A comfort.

A source of encouragement.

Most of us can remember someone who encouraged us at the right moment.

Someone who gave us a chance.

Someone who saw potential when we struggled to see it ourselves.

And perhaps we can also remember moments when we needed that support but feared rejection instead.

Barnabas reminds us how powerful encouragement can be.

Not dramatic encouragement.

Faithful encouragement.

Today, ask yourself:

Who may need encouragement right now?

Who needs someone to believe in them?

To include them?

To speak well of them?

To give them room to grow?

And if you’re the one feeling uncertain or unseen, remember this:

God often sends encouragement through ordinary people willing to step forward in kindness.

Closing Prayer

Lord,

Thank You for the people who have encouraged me along the way.

For those who showed kindness, offered support, and helped me move forward when I needed it most.

Teach me to become that kind of person for others.

Give me eyes to notice those who feel uncertain, excluded, or overlooked.

Help me to encourage with sincerity, to speak life where discouragement has settled, and to create space for others to grow.

And when I struggle to believe in myself, remind me that Your grace is still at work within me.

Use my words, my presence, and my actions to reflect Your encouragement to others.

Because even small acts of support can become part of someone’s healing and growth.

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, Amen.
