Behold, He Prayeth

Acts 9:11 (LXX) · 2026-05-06

After Saul’s dramatic encounter with Christ, everything becomes quiet. In the stillness, God begins a deeper work—one rooted not in action, but in prayer.

Scripture Reading

11 And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the street which is called Straight, and enquire in the house of Judas for one called Saul, of Tarsus: for, behold, he prayeth.

Devotional Reflection

Saul has been stopped.

He has surrendered.

He has asked the question:

“Lord, what wilt Thou have me to do?”

And now…

everything becomes quiet.

No preaching.
No movement.
No visible action.

Just waiting.
Just stillness.

And in that quiet place,
something important is happening.

“Behold, he prayeth.”

This is the first description we’re given
after Saul’s encounter with Jesus.

Not boldness.
Not leadership.
Not influence.

Prayer.

Something has changed
deep within him.

The man who once acted with urgency
now sits in stillness.

Listening.
Seeking.
Turning toward God.

We often want transformation
to be immediate and visible.

To move quickly
from change to action.

But God often works differently.

There are seasons where the most important work happens quietly.

Where roots are forming.
Where understanding deepens.
Where the heart is being reshaped.

And others may not see it.

But God does.

So, don’t rush past the quiet places.

If you find yourself in a slower season—
a waiting season—
a reflective season—

stay there.

Pray.
Listen.
Be present.

Not every step forward is outward.

Some of the most important steps
happen within.

Closing Prayer

Lord,

There are times when everything slows down,
and I do not always know what to do in that stillness.

I am used to movement,
to progress,
to visible steps forward.

But You often work in quieter ways.

Teach me to be at peace
in seasons that feel hidden.

Help me to remain present with You
when there is no urgency to act.

Draw me into deeper prayer—
not as a task,
but as a place of connection.

Shape my heart
in ways that cannot be seen yet.

And give me patience
to trust that what You are doing within me
is just as important
as anything I could do outwardly.

Because transformation begins in You.

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit,
Amen.
